DesignAgainstCulture T Shirts
DesignAgainstCulture (aka D.A.C.) is a relatively new brand, having only hit the high street approx. 2 years ago, yet its popularity is on a steep climb upwards. Founded by two Australians both already involved in the clothing industry, Mark Howes and Liam Farrow found themselves somewhat disillusioned with what how the industry was responding to the demands of fashion consumers, particularly in the surf and skate-wear industry. Upon finding themselves out of work at the end of 2008, whilst the world financial markets crashed and the private sector tightened its belt, Howes and Farrow decided to put their observations to good use.
Within a year’s time, DesignAgainstCulture was born with the purpose of offering contemporary street and surfwear as a response to what the rest of the industry was producing. D.A.C.’s philosophy is to provide clothing featuring low-key design and refinement, without the hefty price tag consumers are so often used to. The current season’s products are a good example of this, featuring nice and simple designs such as the ‘Stripe Pocket Tee’, the ‘Marle Panel Tee’, and the ‘Everyday Short’.
The DesignAgainstCulture T shirt and clothing brand is steadily gaining momentum as an established member of the streetwear market. With over 50 stores throughout Australia stocking DesignAgainstCulture apparel they are fulfilling their aim to “continue to provide clever refined design that is achievable.” As their designer Liam Farrow explains, D.A.C. is a ‘forward thinking lifestyle brand’; a notion that carries across their product range, evident from the simple but still unique items such as the ‘Sgt Sam Jacket’, and the ‘Renaissance Boardshort’.
